WAB Turks |
Figures: Essex miniatures except for the Volunteer
Spearmen which are Old Glory.
Painting: Tim P. did everything except for the Volunteers which were
done by Tom O.
Basing: Tim P.
This army was originally painted for another system by one of the guys in our gaming group, Tim P., who does excellent work. He traded it off to a local “collector” Tom S., and I got it in a trade from him. Luckily for me, Tim agreed to paint up a few items and base some others that I painted to give the army a consistent look across the board.
It is a really nice army that in play-testing the Ottoman Turk list in the Armies of Chivalry WAB supplement did fairly well. The Janissaries and Sipahis are tough, and there are a number of other troops to distract your opponents with as well. Some are good like the Serbian knights, but others aren’t so good, like the Volunteers. The figures in the army are all Essex miniatures except for two units of Volunteer spearmen. The Essex figures are not that bad and they paint up nicely, but they suffer from a lack of different poses. There is more variety in the cavalry, but even there, poses from other ranges (Persians for example) are included for more variety. This is not a problem Old Glory has with the variety of poses and head variants in their packs. If I were to do this army from scratch, I would use Old Glory primarily with a few Essex thrown in, and not the other way around.
The army consists of: 10 Volunteer archers, 12 Volunteer spearmen, 2 units
of 15 Volunteer spearmen, 10 Janissary crossbowmen, 10 Janissary handgunners,
15 Janissary halberdiers, 15 armored Janissaries with spear and bow, 10 Serbian
knights, 8 Delis, a General, an Army Standard Bearer, 3 units of Sipahis,
and 2 units of Akincis.
