15mm Poles

Figures: Essex and Mikes Models
Wagons: Hallmark
Painting: Tom O. and ???
Basing: Tom O.

This was my first army for the DBR rules. It started with an army brought back from Scotland by one of the guys I game with. It had a good, solid core of already painted troops using old Mikes Models. I supplemented the existing army with Essex figures. Though the models don’t mix together too well within the same unit, if you keep them divided into units made of exclusively Essex or Mikes Models, the army doesn't look that bad, and is definitely colorful!

I primed the part of the army I painted black and painted over it. It looks OK…can you tell the Mikes Models from the Essex? If not, then you might need glasses! The army consists of: 2 light guns, 1 medium gun, 4 stands of dragoons, 4 stands of German musketeers, 2 stands of German pikemen, 1 stand of peasants, 2 stands of Polish pikemen, 17 stands of Polish shot, 26 stands of cavalry (Rieters, Pancerni, and of course Hussars!), 10 stands of light cavalry, 3 stands of baggage, and 2 generals’ stands.

I used this army for DBR a couple of times, and then gave up on that system. For want of something fun, I searched the ‘net and found the Lion of the North rules at the “freewargames.uk” site (I haven’t been there in a while, so I don’t know what is still up there). LON though was meant for armies of the same size and having just one general, and I wanted something bigger with more diversity of command. I settled on some pretty standard wargames mechanisms when modifying the rules. A copy of my modified version of LON along with the army list for the Swedes is present on this site. A big thanks to the NorthPhoenixIrregulars for their help in getting the rules to where they are now.
